While initially KJC participated in Coffee auctions in South India and chose best available lots from those available, its penchant for quality and all season flavor soon saw it zeroing-in on estates that met stringent pre-requisites including altitudes of 2000 feet above sea level, a minimum of 16 cms rainfall and 4 hours of daily sunshine apart from growth and maintenance of the coffee plants; like restrained use of pesticides and chemical fertilizers, plucking and storage processes etc. Nilgiris, Yercaud, Valparai, Kushalnagar, Chikmagalur, Baba Budangiri, and Wayanad are the hunting grounds for the brand with each estate assessed every year for the quality of the bean.
